Did you perform the instrument cluster diagnostic system check?

  1. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Connect a fused (3 amp) jumper between the brake fluid level indicator switch harness connector terminal A (CKT 1650) and B (CKT 209).

Does the BRAKE indicator still light?

  1. Replace the brake fluid level indicator switch. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Connect a fused (3 amp) jumper between the brake fluid level indicator switch harness connector terminal A (CKT 1650) and terminal B (CKT 209).

Does the BRAKE indicator still light?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

  1. Repair one of the following conditions between the brake fluid level indicator switch harness connector terminal A and G 119:
    2. • A poor connection
    • An open
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Repair one of the following conditions in CKT 209 between S 286 and the brake fluid level indicator switch harness connector terminal B:
    2. • A poor connection
    • An open
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Connect a Scan Tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  3. Disconnect the Electronic Brake Control Module/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBCM/EBTCM).
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  5. Command the instrument cluster BRAKE indicator to turn on.

Does the BRAKE indicator light?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the Body Control Module (BCM).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator light?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Replace the Electronic Brake Control Module/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBCM/EBTCM). Refer to Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module Replacement in Antilock Brake System (ABS).
  2. Inspect the system.

  1. Repair a short to B+ on CKT 209.
  2. Inspect the system.
