Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.1L
Removal Procedure
- Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
- Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
Move the reservoir aside. Refer to
Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the accessory drive belt at the pump. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical -- 3.1L.
- Remove the ignition wiring harness near the pump.
- Disconnect the following
components from the pump:
- Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts from the power steering
pump.
- Remove the power steering pump.
- Remove the power steering pump pulley from the pump. Refer to
Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement
.
- Remove the reservoir from the power steering pump.
Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering
reservoir to the power steering pump.
- Install the power steering pump pulley. Refer to
Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement
.
- Install the power steering pump to the engine.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the power
steering pump mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump mounting bolts to 34 N·m
(25 lb ft).
- Connect the following components to the pump:
- Install the wiring harness at the power steering pump.
- Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical -- 3.1L.
- Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to
Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Fill the power steering system. Refer to
Refilling the Power Steering System
.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to
Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks
.
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.8L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the accessory drive
belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
or
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
- Remove the power steering pressure line from the power steering
pump. Refer to
Power Steering Hoses Replacement
.
- Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering
pump. Refer to
Power Steering Hoses Replacement
.
- Remove the power steering
pump mounting bolts.
- Remove the power steering pump assembly.
- Remove the power steering pump reservoir from the power steering
pump.
- Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering
pump reservoir to the power steering pump.
- Install the power steering pulley to the power steering pump.

- Install the power steering pump.

- Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.

- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to

- Lower the vehicle.
Install accessory drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
or
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Fill power steering system. Refer to
Refilling the Power Steering System
.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to
Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks
.
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
