General information to set up a body control module (BCM)

Important: The air bag indicator light may remain ON after the BCM is replaced and during the programming procedure for the BCM until after the procedure is completed and the ignition key is cycled OFF and ON .

Before performing any of the set up procedures ensure the following:

    • Ensure the scan tool has been updated with the latest software version.
    • Ensure the battery is fully charged.
    • Ensure all modules on the serial data line are connected.

To set up a new BCM, the following procedures have to be performed:

  1. Learning the restraints ID
  2. Setting options

Learning the restraints ID

Select "Setup SDM Serial Number in BCM" under the BCM special functions menu, and follow the Tech 2 on-screen instructions.

Setting options

Select Set Options under the BCM special functions menu, and follow the Tech 2 on-screen instructions. The following options can be set up:

    • Point of Sale
    • Load Management Option

Important: After programming, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis:

  1. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
  2. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
  3. Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
  4. Use the scan tool in order to retrieve history DTCs from all modules.
  5. Clear all history DTCs.
