J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 583971  Size: SH
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.
  3. Remove the accumulator cover from the accumulator.

  4. Object Number: 583989  Size: SH
  5. Remove the compressor hose nut from the accumulator.
  6. Remove the compressor hose from the accumulator.

  7. Object Number: 583858  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the compressor hose retaining clip (1) at the frame rail.
  9. Remove the compressor hose bolt from the condenser.

  10. Object Number: 247310  Size: SH
  11. Remove the compressor hose from the condenser.

  12. Object Number: 247288  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C pressure sensor.
  14. Remove the compressor hose nut from the compressor.
  15. Remove the compressor hose from the vehicle.
  16. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the compressor hose at the compressor and accumulator mounting locations. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  17. Remove and discard the O-rings from the compressor hose.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 247288  Size: SH
  1. Install new sealing washers to the compressor hose at the compressor and accumulator mounting locations. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the new O-rings to the compressor hose at the condenser mounting location. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  3. Install the compressor hose to the vehicle.
  4. Install the compressor hose to the compressor.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the compressor hose nut to the compressor.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  8. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C pressure switch.
  9. Install the compressor hose to the condenser.

  10. Object Number: 247310  Size: SH
  11. Install the compressor hose bolt to the condenser.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Important: If the clip was damaged during removal, install a new clip.

  13. Install the compressor hose into the clip on the frame rail and fasten the clip.
  14. Install the compressor hose to the accumulator.

  15. Object Number: 583989  Size: SH
  16. Install the compressor hose nut to the accumulator.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  18. Position the accumulator cover on the accumulator and press to engage.
  19. Position the evaporator hose on the accumulator cover and press to engage.
  20. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  21. Leak test the fittings of the A/C component using the J 39400-A .
