Battery Negative Cable Replacement Top Post
Removal Procedure
Important:
• | Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter
and length of the cables that you are replacing. |
• | Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original
cable. |
- Disconnect the battery negative cable from the negative battery
post. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Disconnect the battery
negative cable from the side rail.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the battery
negative cable from the engine block.
- Disconnect the electrical
harness conduit wire ties from the engine frame.
- Remove the battery negative cable from the electrical harness
conduit.
- Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the battery negative
cable into the electrical harness conduit.
- Connect the electrical harness conduit wire ties to the engine
frame.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolt
securing the battery negative cable to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the battery negative cable to engine block bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the bolt securing
the battery negative cable to the side rail.
Tighten
Tighten the battery negative cable to side rail bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Connect the battery negative cable to the battery negative post.
