J 41623-B Cooler Quick Connect Tool

Removal Procedure

    Caution: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.

    Caution: To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked, or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  3. Remove the front headlamps. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  5. Remove the upper radiator seal.
  6. Remove the battery cable to transmission oil cooler line clip and position the cable aside.
  7. Remove the oil fill cap from the sight shield.
  8. Remove the engine oil dipstick.
  9. Disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler line using the J 41623-B .
  10. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.

  12. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors from the cooling fan motors.

  14. Remove the cooing fan mounting bolts from the radiator.
  15. Remove the coolant overflow hose from the fan assembly.
  16. Remove the fans by releasing from the lower mounting tabs and raise the left side of the fans up.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fan assembly and insert into the lower radiator holding tabs.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the electric cooling fan mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the coolant overflow hose into the fan shroud clips.

  7. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors to the fan motors.
  8. Install the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
  9. Connect the upper transmission oil cooler line.
  10. Install the engine oil dipstick.
  11. Install the oil fill cap to the sight shield.
  12. Install the battery cable to transmission oil cooler line clip and reposition the cable.

  14. Install the upper radiator seal.
  15. Install the front headlamps. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  16. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
