Removal Procedure
The unique styling of the Park Avenue requires the outer door frame opening
to be removed or sectioned for the removal of the complete quarter panel. Service
procedures have been developed for sectioning the quarter panel. Sectioning the
quarter panel does not require the removal of any adjacent panels or the back glass.
- Remove all related panels and components, including the side glass.
- Visually inspect and restore as much of the damage as possible to the
factory specifications.
- Remove the following as necessary:
• | Anti-corrosion materials |
- Follow the upper character line of the quarter panel with 1 in
masking tape from the door opening to the deck lid opening.
- Cut a tab in the quarter panel outboard
of the tape (1).
- Bend the tab down and out slightly (2). The service panel will be welded
to this flange (3).
- Note the location and number of all factory welds except those along
the tab.
- Drill out factory welds and remove the damaged quarter panel.
- Remove all related panels and components.
Installation Procedure
- Trim the upper mounting flange (1)
on the service panel so that it can fit properly over the tab from the original
service part (2).
- Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) holes 40 mm (1 1/2 in)
apart along the flange of the service panel for plug welding to the tab left
from the original panel (3).
- Position the service panel and check the fit and plug weld accordingly.
- Make sure to weld the service quarter panel to the tab.
- Clean and prepare welded surfaces.
- Apply sealers and anti-corrosion materials as necessary.
- Seal the joint between the roof panel and quarter panel with an appropriate
material.
- Prime with two-part catalyzed primer.
- Install all related panels and components.
Important: Care must be taken to ensure that the fuel filler neck is properly sealed when
replacing the quarter panel. Use SPO Sealing Strip P/N 123991117 between
the quarter panel and fuel filler neck. Install using the provided instructions.
