Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
ā¢ | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
ā¢ | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
ā¢ | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Disconnect electrical
connector from traction control harness and feed harness out of column. Observe
the harness routing and location to assist in reassembly.
- Remove the shift lever retaining screw.
- Pull the shift lever upward to remove it from the linear shift
assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Push the shift lever downward
to engage it into the shift control.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the shift lever retaining screw
to linear shift assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the shift lever retaining screw to 1.5 NĀ·m (13 lb in).
- Feed the traction control harness (if equipped) back through the
column. Use care to route the harness as previously observed.
- Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
