Makes 🢒 Buick 🢒 2002 🢒 Park Avenue 🢒 Brakes 🢒 Antilock Brake System 🢒 Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle

    Important: Once the steering column support assembly has been staked more than 3 times, it must be replaced.

  1. Install the steering column support assembly (1) to the steering column jacket assembly (3).

    2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install 4 TORX® screws (2).

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  3. Apply lithium grease to the race and upper shaft assembly.
  4. Install the lower shaft assembly to the race and upper shaft assembly using the lines marked on the shafts from disassembly as a guide.

    5. Object Number: 299889 Size: SH
  5. Install the steering shaft assembly (2) into the steering column tilt head assembly (1).

    6. Object Number: 306326 Size: SH
  6. Align the steering column lock shoes onto the steering column support assembly.
  7. Install the 2 pivot pins (3).
  8. Stake the pivot pins (3) in 3 locations.

  9. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1).
  10. Install the lower bearing seat (2).
  11. Install the lower bearing spring (3).
  12. Install 2 lower spring retainers (4).
  13. Install the dual triangle sensor assembly (5).
  14. Install the sensor retainer (6).
  15. Install the steering shaft seal (7).
  16. Install the linear shift assembly. Refer to Linear Shift Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  17. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly. Refer to Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  18. Install the tilt spring assembly. Refer to Tilt Spring - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  19. Install the electronic lock module assembly. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  20. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  21. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
