Did you review the Radio/Audio System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.

Are all of the speakers inoperative?

Go to Step 8

  1. Use the J 39916-A CD and Cassette Diagnostic Audio Kit in order to isolate the inoperative speaker if necessary.
  2. Set the fade and the balance to the inoperative speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 4

Measure the A/C voltage from the speaker output (+) at the inoperative speaker to the speaker output (-) at the inoperative speaker.

Is A/C voltage measured?

Go to Step 11

Is the vehicle equipped with U99?

Go to Step 7

Test the speaker output circuits to the inoperative speaker for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the speaker output circuits to the inoperative speaker for an open, high resistance, or a short. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test all speaker output circuits from the radio for a short. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
