Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 323513 Size: LH
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  3. Remove the steering wheel inflator module (3). Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut (2).
  5. Remove the steering wheel (1) from the steering column shaft. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

  6. Remove the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  7. Pop the wire harness assembly (4) out of the wire harness strap (5).
  8. Remove three wire harness straps (3) from the wire harness assembly (4).
  9. Remove one wire harness strap (2) from the upper tilt head assembly (1).

  10. Remove the black SIR connector (2) from the fused jumper assembly connector (1).

    11. Object Number: 324829 Size: SH
  11. Remove the retaining ring (1).
  12. Remove the SIR coil assembly (3).
  13. Remove the wave washer (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 324831 Size: SH
  1. Install the wave washer (1).

  2. To install the SIR coil assembly:

    3. Align the block tooth on the race and upper shaft assembly (1) to the 12 o' clock position.

  3. The new SIR coil assembly will be precentered. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle (Column Shift And Floor Shift) in Steering.
  4. Pull the tab and remove. Do not depress the tab (1) on the back of the SIR coil assembly.

  5. Align the SIR coil assembly (2) with the horn tower sticking through the shaft lock shield assembly (1).

    Important: The retaining ring (1) must seat securely on the groove of the race and upper shaft assembly (2).

  6. Install the retaining ring (1).

  7. Install the black SIR connector (2) to the fused jumper assembly connector (1).

    8. Object Number: 324821 Size: SH
  8. Pop the wire harness assembly (4) into the wire harness strap (5).

    9. Install one wire harness strap (2) into the steering column tilt head assembly (1).

    Install three wire harness straps (3) onto the wire harness assembly (4).

  9. Install the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  10. Install the steering wheel (1). Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  11. Install the steering wheel inflator module (3). Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
