For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Perform the front-to-rear and up/down lid adjustment at the lid to hinge bolts. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Hinge Replacement .
  2. Loosen the bolts.
  3. Align the lid as necessary.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Tighten the bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

Torque Rod Adjustment

Tools Required

J 43300 Torque Rod Adjustment Tool

  1. Support the rear compartment lid.
  2. Remove the rear compartment trim, as necessary.

  3. Object Number: 380122  Size: SH
  4. Install the J 43300 to the torque rod.
  5. Adjust the torque rods to one of three positions for the desired tension.
  6. Use a ratchet wrench and a ratchet wrench extension for leverage.

  7. Reposition the end of the torque rod in a notch closer to the rear of the vehicle. This will decrease the amount of effort needed in order to raise the lid.
