The PASS-Key® III Theft Deterrent Module performs an internal test in order to determine if a valid key is present every 300 milliseconds. If the test determines that a invalid key is present the Pass-Key® III module will indicate an invalid coded key is current.
At the beginning of the ignition cycle the Pass-Key® III module detects a invalid coded key.
• | DTC B2721 is stored in the Pass-Key® III module memory. |
• | The security indicator is illuminated. |
• | The Pass-Key® III module detects a valid coded key. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present. |
• | Use a scan tool. |
Inspect all of the vehicle ignition keys and inspect the invalid keys for damage.

Perform the Theft Deterrent Diagnostic System Check before continuing with the diagnosis of this DTC.
Clear all DTCs and cycle the ignition in order to verify that the DTC did not falsely set.
Clear all DTCs after the repair procedure is complete.
