When an unauthorized vehicle entry is detected (any door is opened), the CTD system (when armed) deters vehicle theft by performing the following actions:

    • Pulsating the horns
    • Pulsating the exterior lamps

The remote function actuator (RFA) module controls all alarm functions. When the RFA module has detected an unauthorized entry, the module applies the following circuits:

    • CKT 624 (BLK/WHT) (headlights control)
    • CKT 28 (BLK) (horns control)

The circuits are applied once per second for approximately 3 minutes until a valid input in order to disarm is received. The RFA module has the following 5 basic modes in order to operate the CTD system:

    • Disarmed
    • Standby
    • Delayed
    • Armed
    • Alarm

The 5 basic modes are described below.

  1. The disarmed mode. The RFA module (CTD system) is in the disarmed mode until the following conditions are detected:
  2. • The ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position.
    • Any door is open.
    • The doors are locked by either of the following components:
       - The power door lock switch.
       - The keyless entry transmitter (key fob).
    • The RFA module goes directly to the delayed mode, under the following conditions:
       - All of the doors are closed.
       - The key fob is used in order to lock the doors.
  3. The standby mode. The RFA module detects the above conditions and enters the standby mode. The RFA module illuminates the SECURITY indicator by grounding CKT 264 (DK GRN).
  4. The delayed mode. When the last door is closed, the RFA module flashes the SECURITY indicator by intermittently grounding CKT 264 (DK GRN).
  5. The armed mode. After 30 seconds, the RFA module enters the armed mode. The RFA turns off the SECURITY indicator.
  6. The alarm mode. Any unauthorized forced entry activates the alarm mode. The RFA module flashes the headlights by intermittently grounding CKT 624 (BLK/WHT). The RFA sounds the horns by intermittently grounding CKT 28 (BLK) once per second for approximately 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, the CTD system returns to the armed mode. If a valid input in order to disarm is received, the RFA module returns to the disarmed mode.

Arming the System

The CTD system may also be armed when the windows are open.

Use the following procedure in order to arm the system:

  1. Close all of the windows.
  2. Place the shift lever in PARK.
  3. Turn the ignition cylinder to the LOCK position.
  4. Remove the key.
  5. Open any door.
  6. Lock the doors using one of the following components on the key fob:
  7. • The power door lock switch.
    • The door lock button.
  8. Close all of the doors.
  9. The system is now armed.

If a door unlock request is received by the RFA module during the above arming sequence, the RFA module enters the disarmed mode. This will turn the SECURITY indicator OFF. In order to arm the system at this point, repeat the arming sequence.

Locking the Vehicle Without Arming the System

Follow one of the following procedures in order to lock the vehicle without arming the system:

Procedure A

  1. Lock the vehicle using the manual door lock knobs.
  2. Close all of the doors.

Procedure B

  1. Close all of the doors.
  2. Use the key in order to lock the door.

Disarming the System

    • Perform the following procedures in order to disarm the system in the standby mode (the SECURITY indicator is flashing while the doors are open):
        1. Press the power door lock switch to the UNLOCK position.
        2. Press the door unlock button on the key fob.
    • Perform the following procedure in order to disarm the system in the delayed arm mode:
        1. Use the key in order to unlock either one of the front doors.
        2. Press the door unlock button on the key fob.

Deactivating the Alarm

Perform the following procedure in order to deactivate the system in the alarm mode (the horns sound and the lights flash intermittently):

  1. Use the key in order to unlock either one of the front doors.
  2. Press the door unlock button on the key fob.

Alarm Mode Activation

Perform the following procedures in order to verify that the system activates the alarm mode:

  1. Turn off the following components:
  2. • The headlights
    • The park lights
  3. Open a window so that the door may unlock from the outside. Use the manual door lock knob.
  4. Place the system in the armed mode. Refer to Arming the System.
  5. Reach through the window in order to unlock the door using the manual door lock knob.
  6. Open the door. The system enters the alarm mode causing the following conditions to occur:
  7. • The horns sound intermittently.
    • The exterior lights flash for approximately 3 minutes.
    • After 3 minutes the system shuts down automatically.

Return System to Standby Mode

In order to verify that the system returns to the standby mode perform the following procedure:

  1. Place the system in the armed mode. Refer to Arming the System.
  2. Unlock the door using the key.
  3. Open the door.
  4. The system does not enter the alarm mode. The SECURITY indicator flashes indicating that the system has entered the standby mode.

Ignition Disarm Function

In order to verify that the ignition disarm function operates, perform the following procedure:

  1. Place the system in the armed mode. Refer to Arming System.
  2. Remain in the vehicle.
  3. Wait for the SECURITY indicator to turn OFF. This indicates that the system is armed.
  4. Cycle the ignition switch from OFF to ON, then to OFF.
  5. Open the door. The system does not enter the alarm mode. The SECURITY indicator flashes, indicating that the system has entered the standby mode.
