The keyless entry system operates several vehicle features from the outside of the vehicle. The keyless entry system uses a keyless entry transmitter in order to perform the following functions:

    • Press the UNLOCK button in order to unlock the driver's door
    • Press the UNLOCK button twice in order to unlock all of the doors
    • Press the LOCK button in order to lock all of the doors
    • Press the PANIC button in order to sound the panic alarm
    • Press the rear compartment lid release button in order to activate the rear compartment release

Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module

The remote function actuator (RFA) module detects and decodes the UHF signal from the keyless entry transmitter. The RFA module then issues control signals through the class 2 serial data line to the following components:

    • The door locks
    • The rear compartment lid release actuator
    • The theft deterrent system
    • The courtesy lamps
    • The perimeter lamps

Door Lock/Unlock

When the remote function actuator (RFA) module receives a valid command transmission in order to lock/unlock the doors, the module sends the appropriate signal over the Class 2 serial data line to the driver door module (DDM). The DDM then transmits the command to the following modules over simple bus interface (SBI):

    • The passenger door module
    • The rear door modules

Rear Compartment Lid Release

When the remote function actuator (RFA) module receives a command to open the rear compartment lid, the RFA module grounds the rear compartment relay.

The rear compartment lid release actuator opens the rear compartment.

Panic Alarm

When the remote function actuator (RFA) module receives a panic alarm command with the IGN1 and the ACC1 in an inactive state, the following functions occur:

    • The perimeter lights flash at 1 second intervals, alternating with the horn
    • The horn sounds at 1 second intervals, alternating with the perimeter lights

The alarm continues until one of the following events occur:

    • The system receives another input from the transmitter
    • The IGN1 or the ACC1 inputs change from inactive to active
    • The system receives a driver or a passenger door lock cylinder state class 2 serial data message
    • 30 seconds elapse
