Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Use the SBM Data List Inputs Function on the scan tool in order to observe the state of the Seat Belt Switch Input.

Is the input UNBUCKLED with the seat belt unbuckled and BUCKLED with the seat belt buckled?

  1. Unbuckle the left seat belt switch.
  2. Disconnect the body control module (SBM) connector C1.
  3. Use a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) in order to measure the resistance from SBM connector C1 terminal C3 to ground.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 7

Inspect SBM connector C1 for poor terminal contact.

Is the terminal contact OK?

Repair the connector terminal contact.

Is the repair complete?

Replace SBM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.

Use a DMM in order to measure the resistance from SBM connector C1 terminal C3 to connector terminal B of the left front seat belt switch.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Go to Step 9

Repair the open in CKT 238 (BLK/WHT).

Is the repair complete?

Use a DMM in order to measure the resistance from SBM connector C1 terminal C3 to LH front seat belt switch connector terminal A.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 10

Test the left front seat belt switch connector for poor terminal contact.

Is the connector terminal contact OK?

Go to Step 12

Repair the connector terminal contact.

Is the repair complete?
