Fasten Belts Indicator

If you unbuckle the driver's seat belt, the left front seat belt switch closes and grounds CKT 238 (BLK/WHT). This applies a ground signal input to the body control module (SBM) at connector C1 terminal C3. When you turn the ignition switch to START or RUN, the SBM turns on the Fasten Seat Belt Warning Chime for 4-8 seconds. At the same time, the module applies a control signal to CKT 234 (YEL) and lights the FASTEN BELTS indicator for 4-8 seconds. Once the chime stops, the indicator flashes as long as the seat belt remains unbuckled. If the driver's seat belt is buckled during the 4-8 second warning period, the chime stops and the indicator turns off.

Chime Conditions

Audible Warnings bring to the driver's attention one or more of several conditions:

    • The seat belt is unbuckled and ignition switch is in RUN or START.
    • The key is in the ignition switch, the ignition switch is set to LOCK, OFF, or ACC, and the left front door is open.
    • The headlights or park lights are on, the ignition switch is set to LOCK, OFF, or ACC, and the left front door is open.
    • Various warning conditions which notify the driver of a problem. Some warning chimes may command the instrument cluster in order to illuminate an associated indicator or display a driver information center (DIC) message.

Chime Priorities

When multiple chimes are required, only the chime with the highest priority sounds. The chimes are prioritized as follows:

    • The Fasten Seat Belts Warning Chime overrides all other audible chimes if they exist simultaneously.
    • The Key In Ignition Warning Chime overrides the Lamps On Warning Chime if they exist simultaneously.

Chime Rates

The rates of chime operation are as follows:

    • The Fasten Belts Warning Chime rate is 50 pulses per minute.
    • The Lamps On Warning Chime rate is 150 pulses per minute.
    • The Key In Ignition Warning Chime rate is 200 pulses per minute.

Fasten Belts Chime

If the driver's seat belt is unbuckled, the left front seat belt switch closes and grounds CKT 238 (BLK/WHT). This applies a ground signal input to the body control module (SBM) at connector C1 terminal C3. When the ignition switch is turned to START or RUN, the SBM turns on the Fasten Seat Belt Warning Chime for 4-8 seconds.

Key In Ignition Chime

The Key In Ignition Warning Chime sounds when the following conditions exist:

    • The key is in the ignition switch while the left front door is open.
    • The key is not in the RUN or START position.

Inserting a key in the ignition switch closes the ignition key warning switch. The switch grounds CKT 80 (LT GRN), which applies a ground input to the remote function actuator (RFA) module at terminal A9. Then the RFA module applies a signal on CKT 1845 (LT GRN) to the body control module (SBM) at terminal C10. The SBM sounds the Key In Ignition Warning Chime.

Lamps On Chime

The Lamps On Warning Chime sounds if the following conditions exist:

    • The left front door is open and the body control module (SBM) does not sense voltage at the lamps on input CKT 549 (PPL/WHT).
    • The ignition switch is not in RUN or START.
