  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Turn the gear selector lever to the PARK position.
  3. Use a scan tool in order to read the gear selector position display.
  4. Compare the scan tool display to the gear selector position table below.

Does the scan tool display match the table below for the PARK position?

Compare the scan tool display in each gear select position to the Gear Selector Position table.

Does the scan tool display match the Gear Selector Position table for all of the combinations?

Inspect CKT 51 (BLK/WHT) for an open or high resistance.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Repair the open or high resistance in CKT 51 (BLK/WHT).

Inspect the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch for proper operation.

Does the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch operate properly?

Inspect the suspect wire for an open or a short to ground.

Is the wiring OK?

  1. Move the gear selector lever from park (P) to drive 4 (D).
  2. Repair the circuit corresponding to the input that does not change.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the PARK/NEUTRAL position (PNP) switch.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Does the scan tool display HIGH for all of the inputs?

Inspect all of the gear selector position input circuits for a short to ground.
