The brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) system prevents the automatic transaxle from shifting out of PARK under the following conditions:
• | The ignition switch is in the RUN position. |
• | The vehicle is stationary. |
Under these conditions, the BTSI actuator locks the shift lever in the PARK position. One of the brake switches is wired in series with the BTSI actuator. The actuator remains energized (locked) until the driver presses the brake pedal. When the brake pedal is pressed, the BTSI actuator releases the park lock cable. This action allows the column shift cable to move and the shift lever to operate.
You may override the BTSI system by turning the ignition switch to the OFF position. This action removes battery voltage from the actuator, releasing the park lock cable.
