Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraints.
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  4. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel (if equipped with traction control). Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the traction control harness (if equipped). Feed the harness out of the column. Observe the harness routing and location in order to assist in reassembly.
  6. Remove the TORX® head fastener from the shift lever to shift control.
  7. Pull the shift lever upward in order to remove the shift lever from the shift control.

Installation Procedure

  1. Push the shift lever downward in order to engage the shift lever into the shift control.
  2. Install the TORX® head fastener.
  3. Feed the traction control harness (if equipped) back through the column. Carefully route the harness as previously observed.
  4. Install the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  5. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  6. Install the left closeout/insulator panel (if equipped with traction control). Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraints.
