Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  2. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 428863  Size: SH
  4. Remove the fasteners from the knee bolster bracket at the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the fasteners from the knee bolster bracket at the steering column support.

  6. Object Number: 428493  Size: SH
  7. Remove the steering column bracket fasteners.
  8. Remove the steering column bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 428493  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering column bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the steering column bracket fasteners.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the knee bolster bracket to the instrument panel.
  6. Install the fasteners to the knee bolster bracket at the steering column support.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the fasteners to the knee bolster bracket at the instrument panel.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  10. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  11. Install the left closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
