Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Important:: Vehicle shift lever must be out of the PARK position in order for the daytime running lamps (DRL) to operate.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Verify the wipers are in the OFF position.
  3. Position the headlight switch in the OFF position.
  4. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
  5. Move the gear selector out of park position.
  6. Expose the sunload sensor assembly to a bright light.
  7. Wait more than 20 seconds.
  8. Observe the DRL lamps.
  9. Cover the sunload sensor assembly.
  10. Wait more than 20 seconds.
  11. Position the gear selector in the park position.
  12. Release the brake pedal.
  13. Turn OFF the ignition.

Did the DRL operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Do the low beam headlamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Headlamps Inoperative - Low Beams or Headlamp Low or High Beams Always On

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn ON the headlamps.
  4. With the scan tool, command the Daytime Running Lamps ON and OFF from the dash integration module (DIM) Output Control data list.

Did the DRL headlamps turn ON and OFF with each command?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DRL relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay coil side supply voltage circuit and ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay switch side supply voltage circuit and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay coil side supply voltage circuit and the DRL relay control circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, command the Daytime Running Lamps ON and OFF.

Did the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Go to Step 9

Test for an open circuit or a short to battery positive voltage in the DRL relay control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or a short to ground in the DRL supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the DRL relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Reprogram the DIM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
