J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .



2. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1) and cable from the underhood fuse block.



3. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.



4. Remove the accumulator cover.



5. Remove the compressor hose nut from the accumulator.
6. Remove the compressor hose from the accumulator.



7. Remove the evaporator hose nut from the accumulator.
8. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.
9. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the compressor hose and the evaporator hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
10. Remove the accumulator from the housing.

1. Add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the accumulator. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .



2. Install the accumulator into the housing.
3. Install new sealing washers to the compressor hose and the evaporator hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.




4. Install the evaporator hose to the accumulator.
5. Install the evaporator hose nut to the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




6. Install the compressor hose to the accumulator.
7. Install the compressor hose nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




8. Install the accumulator cover.



9. Position the evaporator hose onto the accumulator cover and press to engage.



10. Install the positive battery cable and nut (1) to the underhood fuse block.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

11. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
12. Leak test the fittings using the J 39400-A .
