J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Remove the right wheelhouse extension. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  5. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C pressure sensor.

  9. Object Number: 450509  Size: SH
  10. Remove the retaining bolt from the wiring harness bracket.
  11. Remove the compressor hose nut.

  12. Object Number: 419276  Size: SH
  13. Remove the compressor hose from the compressor.
  14. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the compressor hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

  15. Object Number: 247295  Size: SH
  16. Remove the front compressor mounting nuts.
  17. Remove the rear compressor mounting bolt.
  18. Remove the compressor.
  19. If replacing the compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing .

Installation Procedure

Important: The replacement compressor is shipped without PAG oil.

  1. Add the proper amount of PAG oil to the compressor. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing for compressor oil capacity.
  2. Install the compressor.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the front mounting nuts to the compressor.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. Install the rear bolt to the compressor.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  8. Install new sealing washers to the compressor hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  9. Install the compressor hose to the compressor.
  10. Install the compressor hose nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 39 N·m (31 lb ft).

  12. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.

  14. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C pressure sensor.

  15. Object Number: 450509  Size: SH
  16. Install the retaining bolt to the wiring harness bracket.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  21. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  22. Test the affected A/C joints for leaks usingJ 39400-A .
  23. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  24. Install the right wheelhouse extension. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
