J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 422267  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C pressure switch.

  5. Object Number: 419276  Size: SH
  6. Remove the compressor hose nut at the compressor.
  7. Remove the compressor hose from the compressor.

  8. Object Number: 419278  Size: SH
  9. Remove the compressor hose nut at the condenser.
  10. Remove the compressor hose from the condenser.

  11. Object Number: 419280  Size: SH
  12. Remove the compressor hose nut at the accumulator.
  13. Remove the compressor hose from the accumulator.
  14. Remove the compressor hose from the vehicle.
  15. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the compressor hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new sealing washers to the compressor hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the compressor hose to the vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 419276  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the compressor hose to the compressor.
  5. Install the compressor hose nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 39 N·m (31 lb ft).

  7. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C pressure switch.

  8. Object Number: 419278  Size: SH
  9. Install the compressor hose to the condenser.
  10. Install the compressor hose nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).


    Object Number: 419280  Size: SH
  12. Install the compressor hose and nut to the accumulator.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  14. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  15. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Leak test the fittings using the J 39400-A .
