Is the exhaust system still restricted or exhibiting excessive back pressure?

Inspect the muffler/resonator.

Is there a restriction in the muffler/resonator?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

1. Remove the muffler/resonator.
2. Inspect the muffler/resonator for restrictions.
3. Replace the muffler/resonator if needed. Refer to Muffler Replacement.

Is the exhaust system still restricted or exhibiting excessive back pressure?

Go to Step 5

System OK

Inspect the tailpipe end.

Is there an obstruction in the tailpipe end?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

1. Remove the obstruction.
2. Replace the muffler/tailpipe if either is damaged. Refer to Muffler Replacement.

Is the exhaust system still restricted or exhibiting excessive back pressure?

Go to Step 7

System OK

Inspect the catalytic converter.

Is the catalytic converter plugged?

Go to Step 8

--

1. Remove the obstruction.
2. Replace the converter if damaged. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement.

Is the exhaust still restricted or exhibiting excessive back pressure?
