Removal Procedure
Tools Required

Notice: In order to prevent damage to the fuel pump, Do Not run the fuel pump
unless the fuel pump is submerged in fuel.
- Relieve the fuel system
fuel pressure. Refer to the
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Drain the fuel tank (1).
Refer to
Fuel Tank Draining
.
Notice: Do Not handle the fuel sender assembly by the fuel pipes. The amount
of leverage generated by handling the fuel pipes could damage the joints.
- Remove the fuel tank (2).

- Remove the fuel sender assembly from the fuel tank (1). Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Inspect the position of
the fuel pump fuel strainer (2) for installation.
- Support the fuel pump (1) with one hand and grasp the fuel pump
fuel strainer (2) with the other hand.
- Rotate the strainer in one direction and pull the fuel pump fuel
strainer off of the fuel pump.
- Inspect the fuel pump fuel strainer. If the fuel pump fuel strainer
is contaminated, the fuel tank should be cleaned.
- Discard the fuel pump fuel strainer after inspection.
- Remove the fuel pump electrical connector.
- Place the fuel sender assembly upside down on a bench.
Important: Replace the fuel pump if debris is found at the fuel pump inlet.
- Pull the fuel pump downward to remove the fuel pump pulse dampener.
Notice: Do not run the fuel pump unless the fuel pump is submerged in fuel in
order to prevent damage to the fuel pump.
- Inspect the position of the fuel pump pulse dampener(3) on the inlet
pipe.
- Remove the fuel pump pulse dampener from the pipe.
- Dry the fuel pump pulse dampener with a shop towel.
- Shake the fuel pump pulse dampener while listening for trapped
fuel movement inside the fuel pump pulse dampener.
- Replace the fuel pump pulse dampener, if fuel is heard.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Always re-attach the fuel lines and fuel filter with all original type
fasteners and hardware.
Do not repair sections of fuel pipes.
- Install the rubber insulator
on the fuel pump.
- Position the fuel sender assembly upside down.
Important: Always install a new fuel pump fuel strainer (2) when installing a fuel
pump (1). Refer to
Fuel Pump Strainer Replacement
- Install the fuel pump at the fuel feed pipe.
- Install the fuel pump electrical connector.
- Position the new fuel pump fuel strainer on the fuel pump and
push on the outer edge of the fuel pump fuel strainer until the fuel pump
fuel strainer is fully seated.
- Install the fuel sender assembly into the fuel tank (1). Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the fuel tank
(2). Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Add fuel and install the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
- Install the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Inspect for leaks.
11.1. | Turn the ignition switch On for 2 seconds. |
11.2. | Turn the ignition switch Off for 10 seconds. |
11.3. | Turn the ignition switch On. |
11.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |
- Reinstall fuel Injector sight shield. Refer to
