Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right

Removal Procedure

Important: Inspect the EGR outlet pipe for leaks, whenever the pipe is removed from the right hand exhaust manifold. If a leak exists, replace the EGR adapter.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  3. Remove the transaxle oil level indicator. Remove the indicator tube assembly.
  4. Remove the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  5. Remove the bolts attaching the right exhaust manifold to the crossover pipe.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold attaching nuts.
  8. Remove the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Object Number: 35837 Size: SH
  11. Remove the engine lift bracket.

  12. Object Number: 36682 Size: SH
  13. Remove the exhaust manifold studs.
  14. Remove the exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 36682 Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the exhaust manifold studs and bolts.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the studs and the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

    Object Number: 35837 Size: SH
  5. Install the engine lift bracket.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Install the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Install the bolts attaching the right exhaust manifold to the crossover pipe.
  11. Tighten
Tighten the crossover pipe bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  12. Install the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  13. Install the transaxle oil level indicator and the indicator tube.
  14. Install the throttle cable bracket.
  15. Connect the spark plug wires to the sparkplugs.
