REAR COMPARTMENT LID REPAIR HARD CLOSING

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1986 ELECTRAS AND LESABRES

The following procedure should be used to correct above condition:

1.Be sure weatherstrip is fully seated to rear compartment flange by striking weatherstrip every 100mm (4 inches) using a 12 ounce mallet.

2.Screw overslam bumpers on rear compartment lid to full in position and close lid to check flushness of lid to quarters.

3.The rear compartment lid lock can be adjusted up or down and side to side for proper lock-to-striker engagement and to help flush lid. Adjust lock as outlined in Section 7 of the Body Service Manual.

"H" Sedan styles only (See Illustration) Steps 4, 5, and 6.

4.Remove trim over lid hinge.

5.Loosen screw (1) until dimension shown in Illustration is obtained.

6.Replace trim.

7.Check for water leaks using a hose with no nozzle attached, and correct as required.
