The shoe grooves have burrs or dirt.
  1. Clean the shoe grooves.
  2. Inspect the components.
  3. Replace the components as needed. Refer to Steering Column Housing - Disassemble (Floor Shift) or Steering Column Housing - Disassemble (Column Shift).

The shoe lock spring is weak or broken.
  1. Clean the shoe lock spring.
  2. Inspect the components.
  3. Replace the components as needed. Refer to Steering Column Housing - Disassemble (Floor Shift) or Steering Column Housing - Disassemble (Column Shift).

A shoe is seized on the pivot pin.
  1. Clean the pivot pin.
  2. Inspect the pivot pin.
  3. Replace the components as needed. Refer to Steering Column Housing - Disassemble (Floor Shift) or Steering Column Housing - Disassemble (Column Shift).
