Problem

Action

The power steering gear high pressure hose is grounding out.

Inspect the power steering gear high pressure hose for the following conditions:

    • The correct mounting.
    • The correct clearance.

Refer to the appropriate procedure:

The rack bearing preload is loose.

Tighten the rack bearing preload to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle or Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts.

Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement
  2. Replace the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement

The intermediate steering shaft universal joints are loose.

  1. Service the intermediate steering shaft universal joints . Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  2. Replace the intermediate steering shaft universal joints as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
