Draining Procedure

Caution: Do not drain the fuel into an open container. Never store the fuel in an open container due to the possibility of a fire or an explosion.

Notice: Do not drain fuel through the fuel tank filler pipe in order to prevent damage to the fuel tank filler pipe check-ball.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
  3. Block the front tires.
  4. Raise the rear of the vehical so that bottom of the rear bumper is 71 cm (28in.) above the ground.
  5. Clean the fuel tank filler pipe connections and the surrounding area before disconnecting the fuel tank filler pipes in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
  6. Loosen the fuel tank filler pipe hose clamps.
  7. Wrap a shop towel around the fuel tank filler pipe and slowly remove the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.
  8. Use a hand operated fuel pump device in order to drain the fuel through the fuel tank filler pipe.
  9. Reconnect the fuel tank filler pipe and the fuel tank filler pipe hose clamp.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel filler pipe hose clamps to 2.5 N·m (22 lb. in.).

  11. Lower the rear of the vehicle.
  12. Un-block the front tires.
  13. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
  14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
