Accelerator Controls Cable Modulator to Pedal
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
- Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator
cable through the bulkhead.
- Remove the cover from throttle modulator.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle modulator.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within
50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can
be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference
and damage to the component.
- Install the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.
- Install the snap retainer through the bulkhead.
- Install the accelerator cable through the slot in the accelerator
pedal lever.
- Seat the snap retainer in the accelerator pedal lever.
- Install the accelerator cable to the throttle modulator upper
cam.
- Perform adjustment procedure as outline in this section.
- Install the modulator cover.
- Install the lower instrument panel trim.
- Apply heavy bodied sealer around accelerator cable at engine compartment
side of bulkhead.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal.
- The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full
closed and wide open throttle.
Accelerator Controls Cable Modulator to Throttle
Removal Procedure
- Remove the throttle modulator cover.
- Remove the accelerator cable from throttle modulator.
- Remove the accelerator cable retainer and accelerator cable from
throttle body lever.
- Remove the accelerator cable out of accelerator cable bracket.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within
50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can
be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference
and damage to the component.
- Install the accelerator cable to throttle modulator lower cam.
- Install the adjuster lever must be in the unlock position before the accelerator
cable is installed to the throttle body.
- Install the adjuster cable must be routed under the brake booster
vacuum hose.
- Install the accelerator cable to throttle body lever.
- Install the accelerator cable clip to accelerator cable bracket.
- Perform adjustment procedure as outlined in this section.
- Install the throttle modulator cover.
Accelerator Controls Pedal
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the accelerator cable from accelerator pedal.
- Remove the accelerator pedal fasteners and accelerator pedal.
Installation Procedure
- Install the accelerator pedal with attaching fasteners.
- Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator pedal
- Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages and Console.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal.
- The throttle should operate freely without binding between full
closed and wide open throttle.
Accelerator Controls Modulator
Removal Procedure
- Remove the throttle modulator cover.
- Remove the accelerator cables from throttle modulator cams.
- Remove the bolts attaching throttle modulator to throttle modulator
bracket.
- Remove the throttle modulator.
Installation Procedure
- Install the throttle modulator over stud on throttle modulator bracket.
- Install the throttle modulator attaching bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the throttle modulator attaching bolts to 3.5 N·m
(31 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the accelerator cables to throttle modulator cams.
- Perform adjustment procedure as outlined in this section.
- Install the throttle modulator cover.
Accelerator Controls Accelerator Cable Adjustment
Adjustment Procedure
- The cruise control cable must be adjusted prior to performing
this procedure.
- The accelerator control cable adjustment procedure must be followed
each time the accelerator cable is disconnected from the throttle body and
when any components in the remote progressive throttle system are replaced.
- Lift the adjustment lever on the accelerator cable up to the unlocked
position.
- Hold the throttle in the closed position while pulling the cable
conduit towards the throttle body to adjust the slack.
- Push the adjustment lever down to the locked position.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
accelerator pedal. Also check for proper carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal. The throttle should operate freely without bind between full closed
and wide open throttle.
- Using the Scan Tool, check throttle angle percentage by depressing
the accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal is released, throttle opening
should return to 0%. If proper results are not obtained, check modulator and
cables for damage or kinks and repeat procedure.
Accelerator Controls Cruise Cable Adjustment
Adjustment Procedure
- Unlock cable conduit at accelerator cable bracket.
- With the throttle closed, lock the cable conduit by pressing down
on the cable lock.
- When the cable is in the unlocked position, and the throttle is
closed, the cable adjustment spring removes the appropriate amount of slack.
- Cable lock must be fully extended to allow proper adjustment spring
operation prior to locking.
