TRANSAXLE APPLICATIONS: HYDRA-MATIC 3T40 (RPO MD9)
TRANSAXLE MODELS: 5SWC MODELS BUILT BEFORE AUGUST 24, 1994 (JULIAN DATE 236)
SOME OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE A DELAYED OR NO 2-3 UPSHIFT DURING THE FOLLOWING DRIVING CONDITIONS:
- FULLY RELEASING ACCELERATOR PEDAL AFTER A WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT) 1-2 UPSHIFT.
- FULLY RELEASING ACCELERATOR PEDAL AFTER A 3-2 DETENT DOWNSHIFT.
- FULLY RELEASING ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THEN MANUALLY SHIFTING FROM "DRIVE" TO "SECOND" AND THEN BACK TO "DRIVE" ABOVE 35 MPH.
THIS CONDITION MAY BECOME NOTICEABLE AFTER THE TRANSAXLE REACHES OPERATING TEMPERATURE.
CAUSE: (FIGURES 1 AND 2)
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO THE CONTROL VALVE BODY SPACER PLATE. 5SWC MODELS BUILT BEFORE AUGUST 24, 1994 (JULIAN DATE 236) HAD AN UNDERSIZED ORIFICE. THE SPACER PLATE CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE PART NUMBER STAMPED ON THE PART.
TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION, THE SPACER PLATE MUST BE REPLACED. FOLLOW THE STEPS LISTED UNDER "SERVICE INFORMATION."
SERVICE INFORMATION: (FIGURES 1 AND 2)
1) ROAD TEST THE VEHICLE. VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A DELAYED 2-3 UPSHIFT AS LISTED UNDER "CONDITION."
2) VERIFY THE FOLLOWING TRANSAXLE IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION: - THE MODEL IS A 5SWC - THE JULIAN DATE IS LESS THAN 236 AND THE CALENDAR YEAR IS 4
3) REPLACE THE ORIGINAL SPACER PLATE (P/N 24201520) WITH THE REVISED SPACER PLATE (P/N 24203356). IT WILL ALSO BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE VALVE BODY COVER GASKET AND THE SPACER PLATE GASKETS.
