The glove box striker assembly on some 1985-86 Centuries may lose adjustment causing the glove box door not to close completely.
To correct this condition, the following procedure may be used.
1. Remove complete striker assembly from glove box (step one).
2. Using a phillips screw driver, rotate the adjusting screw until the striker plate can be removed from the retainer (step 2).
3. Leave screw in retainer and set retainer aside.
4. Place striker plate on flat work surface. Using a centre punch, indent the sixth crossbar (only) from the end of the plate to a depth of 1mm (step 4).
5. Reinstall striker plate to retainer - holding retainer in position as pictured (step 5), place the left edge of the striker plate under the left side boss of retainer making sure that the end of the striker plate is 3mm from the end of the retainer. Line up slots in striker with ribs of screw and snap right side of striker plate down into right side boss of retainer.
6. Reinstall striker assembly into glove box and adjust for proper fit.
Use applicable labour time and operation numbers.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
