This bulletin is being revised to add a PROM Code and revise note in Step 7 of the Technical Procedure.

In the-Parts Information section, revise the parts table to:

New Qty. Per Old Scanner Part Model PROM Veh. & Est. PROM PROM Number Usage Description Code Usage Code I.D. ------- ------- --------------- ----- ---------- ---- ---- 16145339 Regal PROM (Calibrator) ATNC 1 (100%) FWJ 9814 Somerset or DXT 5754 16145338 Century PROM (Calibrator) ATNB 1 (100%) CMH 6284 or ACLZ 9464 16145340 Electra/ PROM (Calibrator) ATND 1 as CMB 6244 Park Avenue (Option WF4) required or (63%) HUK 4734 16154704 Electra/ PROM (Calibrator) AWDH 1 as DWM 4804 Park Avenue (Less WF4) required or (30%) DLA 1874 (added) 16154698 Electra/ PROM (Calibrator) AWDJ 1 as DZX 7054 Park Avenue (Less WF4) required (7%)

In the Technical Procedure, the Notice in Step 7 is revised to:

NOTICE: SMALL NOTCH OF PROM CARRIER SHOULD BE ALIGNED WITH SMALL NOTCH IN ECM SOCKET. PRESS ON PROM CARRIER UNTIL IT IS FIRMLY SEATED IN THE SOCKET. DO NOT PRESS ON PROM, ONLY ON THE CARRIER. SEE FIGURE 2. ON SOME VEHICLES, THE SOCKET IN THE ECM MAY APPEAR TO BE SLIGHTLY TOO NARROW TO RECEIVE THE PINS OF THE REPLACEMENT PROM; IT CAN BE INSTALLED, BUT CAREFUL ALIGNMENT OF THE PINS IS REQUIRED. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO PRESS CAREFULLY FIRST ON ONE EDGE OF THE CARRIER, THEN ON THE OTHER EDGE TO START THE PROM PINS INTO THE SOCKET.

Also in Step 7, before installing the new PROM, verify the code on the PROM is the same as the new PROM Code for that vehicle. Several reports have been received of mispackaged PROMS.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
