The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Theft deterrent will not program on the Buick LaCrosse / Allure equipped with the LY7 engine.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the theft deterrent will not program use the following procedure:

1. Turn the key to the on position and leave on for 11 minutes using a stop watch.

2. After 11 minutes turn the key off and back on within a 3 to 5 second window. Perform this procedure a total of 3 times using a stop watch.

Note: The starting will be disabled due to theft deterrent light not going out

3. After the final 11 minutes, turn the key off for 5 seconds. On the next key cycle start the car, the ECM should have learned the fuel enabled password and the BCM should have learned the new key transponder information.

Note: Keep battery voltage between 12 and 13 volts and do not use a battery charger as this causes voltage fluctuations.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
