Service Manager, Sales Manager. |
The purpose of this bulletin is to introduce the new 2005 Buick LaCrosse (Allure).
Included is a description of the vehicle's features as well as actions your Service
Department will need to take to ensure that your dealership is able to fully service
this exciting new model.
ABOUT THE VEHICLE
The 2005 Buick LaCrosse (Allure) is a four door mid-size sedan and is available
in three different models, the CX, CXL and the CXS.
Powertrain
Engine
The LaCrosse (Allure) CX and CXL come standard with a 3.8L 3800 Series
III V6 (RPO L26) -- VIN code 2. The Series III version continues the tradition
of outstanding performance and reliability. Electronic throttle control allows the
engine to respond more precisely to driver commands at both low and high speeds, and
structural enhancements have reduced vibration for a smooth, quiet ride.
The LaCrosse (Allure) CSX comes standard with a 3.6L VVT DOHC V6 (RPO LY7) --
VIN code 7. This is a first of a new family of V6 engines to go into production and
is one of GM's most advanced. Featuring fully variable valve timing for both intake
and exhaust, this impressive power plant reduces emissions while providing outstanding
fuel economy (EPA estimated mpg 19 city, 28 hwy). Variable valve timing
also enables this engine to deliver an impressive 240 hp and 255 lb-ft
of torque.
Transmission
Both engines are mated to the 4T65E transaxle (RPO M15). This electronically
controlled 4-speed automatic transmission employs advanced calibration logic
to help ensure smooth, precise shifting. In addition to its proven durability, the
transmission also utilizes adaptive learning logic, tailoring it to the driver's style
for optimum shifting performance.
Body
Electrical Architecture
The electrical architecture of the vehicle is Class 2 and GMLAN. GMLAN requires
the use of a CANdi module to communicate with the Tech 2®. SI Document ID #1545666
identifies which serial data link that a particular module uses for in-vehicle data
transmission. There are potentially 20 different modules that can be found on the
LaCrosse (Allure). SI Document ID #1464741 provides a list of modules as well
as links to schematics, repair instructions and programming and set-up information.
Some key location of modules are:
• | Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM) (OnStar) -- center
IP stack behind the HVAC control |
• | Body Control Module (BCM) -- left side of steering column behind
the knee bolster |
• | Radio Amplifier, Compass, Rear Object Alarm Detection, Remote Control
Door Lock Receiver, and OnStar GPS Receiver -- below the rear shelf panel |
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System
The throttle actuator control (TAC) system delivers improved throttle response
and greater reliability and eliminates the need for a mechanical cable between the
pedal and throttle body.
Driver's Information Center
The driver's information center (DIC) display is located on the instrument cluster
below the speedometer. The base level DIC displays the odometer and trip odometer.
Uplevel DICs also display a compass, trip computer, fuel economy information, OnStar®

Remote Vehicle Start
This feature allows the customer to start the vehicle from the outside the vehicle
by using the Remote Keyless Entry transmitter. Normal range of the transmitter is
200 feet (60 meters) from the vehicle. The engine will run for 10 minutes
before turning itself off. It can be extended 10 minutes more by performing another
remote start sequence at any time. If the vehicle has automatic climate control and
the remote start system is activated, the HVAC system will sense the outside temperature
and automatically enter the appropriate optimal pre-cooling or pre-heating mode regardless
of the heat/air conditioning setting on the instrument panel.
To start the vehicle using the remote start feature, do the following:
- Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.
- Press and release the transmitter's lock button, then immediately press
and hold the transmitter's remote start button until the turn signal lamps flash,
or if the vehicle's lights are not visible, press and hold the transmitter's remote
start button for four seconds. The vehicle's doors will lock.
- When the vehicle's engine starts, the parking lamps will turn on and remain
on while the engine is running.
The engine will shut off automatically
after 10 minutes, unless a time extension has been done or the vehicle's key
is inserted into the ignition switch and turned to RUN.
Unlock the door(s) with the transmitter or key. If you enter the vehicle after
a remote start, and the engine is still running, insert the key into the ignition
switch and turn it to the RUN position to drive the vehicle.
- To manually shut off a remote start, do any of the following:
• | Aim the remote keyless entry transmitter at the vehicle and press the
remote start button until the parking lamps turn off. |
• | Turn on the hazard warning flashers. |
• | Turn the ignition switch to RUN and then to OFF. |
Your vehicle's engine may be started two times using the transmitter's remote
start feature. If only one remote start procedure has been done since last driving
the vehicle, or resetting the remote start system, the engine may be started again
remotely following the remote start procedure a second time
If the remote start procedure is used again before the first ten minute time
frame has ended, 10 minutes will be added to the remaining minutes. The added
10 minutes are considered a second remote start.
The remote vehicle start feature will not operate if:
• | The remote start system is disabled. |
• | The vehicle's key is in the ignition. |
• | A door is open or the vehicle's hood is not closed. |
• | The hazard warning flashers are on. |
• | There is an emission control system malfunction. |
• | The engine coolant temperature is too high. |
• | The oil pressure is low. |
• | Two remote vehicle starts have already been provided. |
If a remote start is attempted and is unsuccessful, the Driver Information
Center (DIC) will display REMOTE START DISABLED.
Vehicles equipped with the remote vehicle start feature are shipped from the
factory with the remote vehicle start system enabled. The system may be disabled through
the DIC.
HomeLink® Wireless Control System
The HomeLink® system is a transmitter operating between 288-399 MHz.
The power and range of the transmitter is limited to comply with laws governing the
generation of radio frequency interference (RFI). The transmitter is located on the
driver's sunvisor and can be programmed to store 3 different frequencies for a garage
door opener, entry door lock, security system, etc. The HomeLink® system will
only work with key on.
Passenger Air Bag Status Indicator
The vehicle's passenger sensing air bag system has a status indicator located
in the instrument panel center stack. With the key in Run or Start, the indicator
blinks on/off for several seconds as a system check. Following, the light will stay
on or off to indicate passenger side air bag status. If it shows that the air bag
is on, it means that the air bag is enabled (could inflate). If it shows that the
air bag is off, the passenger air bag is disabled.
Rear Parking Assist
The ultrasonic rear parking assist (URPA) can help a driver determine how close
an object is to the rear bumper within a defined rearward field of view.
The rear parking assist display is located inside the vehicle above the rear
window. The display has 3 indicators that can be seen through the rearview mirror
or by turning around when seated in the driver seat.
When the ignition is ON and the vehicle is placed into reverse, the URPA performs
a bulb check. During the bulb check, the 3 indicators on the display illuminate for
approximately 2 seconds to indicate that the system is working. The URPA performs
a bulb check and operates when the following conditions are present:
• | The vehicle is placed in REVERSE (R) |
• | The vehicle speed is less than 5 km/h (3 mph) |
| At speeds greater than 5 km/h (3 mph), the URPA is disabled. The
red indicator flashes to warn the driver that the URPA is disabled. |
The URPA senses how close the vehicle is to an object. The distance is determined
by the four ultrasonic sensors located on the rear bumper. When the system detects
an object, one of the following will occur:
• | If the object is less than 0.3 m (11 in) away from the rear
of the vehicle, the amber outside, amber middle, and the red outside indicators flash
and the chime sounds continuously. |
• | If the object is less than 0.3 m to 0.5 m (11 to 20 in)
away from the rear of the vehicle, the amber outside, amber middle, and the red outside
indicators are on and the chime sounds continuously. |
• | If the object is 0.5 to 1.0 m (20 to 40 in) away from the
rear of the vehicle, the amber outside, and the amber middle indicators are on. |
• | If the object is 1.0 to 1.5 m (40 in to 5 ft) away
from the rear of the vehicle, the amber outside indicator is on and the chime sounds
one time on the first detection of an object. |
URPA can detect objects 7.6 cm (3 in) wide and at least 25.4 cm
(10 inches) tall. It cannot detect objects above the level of the roof.
If the red indicator flashes continuously, the on-board diagnostic needs to
be entered to determine if a malfunction is present.
Tilt/Telescoping Steering Wheel
The LaCrosse (Allure) is equipped with a telescoping steering column which also
adjusts up and down. To adjust the tilt position of the steering wheel, hold the wheel
and pull the lever on the left of the column toward you. Move the wheel up or down
and release the lever to lock. To adjust the telescoping position of the steering
wheel, push down on the lever to unlock the steering wheel. Pull or push the steering
wheel to the desired position. Push up on the lever to lock the steering wheel.
Outside Rear View Mirrors
The outside rear view mirrors do not fold away.
UNIQUE VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS
Delayed Locking
Delayed locking for base cluster has been turned off and the chime will not
sound. There is no personalization opportunity to turn the delayed locking back on.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
The 2005 LaCrosse (Allure) is not equipped with tire pressure monitoring system.
HVAC System
On remote start, automatic HVAC equipped vehicles will adjust cabin temperature
and turn on defoggers according to outside temperature and default back to the previous
key off setting when the key is inserted and rotated forward. AC compressor will also
default on when not remote started. If the system was in vent mode and AC off, on
the next ignition cycle, the AC will turn on. This is designed to assist in window
defogging.

Cleaning of Interior Components
The luxuriousness of the LaCrosse (Allure)'s interior has been enhanced by a
low gloss finish on the components. Maintaining the cleanliness of these components
will help protect and preserve the finish over the life of the vehicle. Use mild cleaners,
the procedures described in the Owner's Manual, and protect from abrasive damage caused
by dirt and other articles. Please do not use abrasive substances against these finishes
and avoid cleaners containing waxes or silicones which will increase the finish gloss
level.
Washing Under Hood Area
During PDI, it is a good idea to wash/clean the under hood and engine compartment
area.
• | Caution must be exercised when utilizing a high pressure washer aimed
directly onto the under hood bussed electrical center (UBEC). |
• | A no start condition, continuous horn, or the engine starts when the ignition
key is placed in the run condition can be some of the results of the UBEC getting
wet. |
